Arterial Ulcerations
Arterial ulcers, also known as ischemic ulcers, are painful wounds that develop due to poor blood circulation. When the skin and underlying tissues don’t receive enough oxygen-rich blood, the tissue begins to deteriorate, resulting in open wounds. These ulcers usually form on the lower extremities, such as the toes, heels, outer ankle, or areas where pressure is applied from walking or footwear.
Arterial ulcers have a distinct “punched out” appearance, often circular with red, yellow, or black coloration. The affected limb may feel cool or cold to the touch, and the ulcers are generally quite painful. A common method for temporary relief involves letting the legs dangle over the edge of the bed, allowing gravity to assist blood flow to the area and ease discomfort.
Effective treatment of arterial ulcers is essential not only for pain management but also for promoting healing and preventing further complications. Our specialized approach to wound care focuses on enhancing circulation, relieving pressure, and providing tailored care to support the natural healing process.
